Children and adolescents ages 4-17 with emotional or behavioral problems who are referred by a family doctor or pediatrician can be seen.

Thank you for visiting this website. My name is Dr. Katharina Manassis, M.D., FRCP(C). I am a certified Child Psychiatrist with a longstanding connection to the University of Toronto (Professor Emerita), where I researched, treated, and taught about childhood anxiety disorders. After an intense and rewarding academic career (>80 peer reviewed publications; 5 books), I decided it was time for a change.

Therefore, I now practice out of my home in Pickering, Ontario, bringing to my community some of what I’ve learned and, in turn, learning from every child, adolescent, and family I see. Apart from my professional “book learning” I also draw upon my experience raising two children (now in their late teens), one on the Autistic Spectrum.

After a thorough assessment, I work with you and your child or teen to develop an evidence-based treatment plan. This plan could include providing recommendations to the referring doctor or other relevant professionals, psychotherapy for your child or teen (usually with a cognitive behavioral or interpersonal focus), parenting advice/counseling, and/or medication management.

To find out if your child or teen could benefit from these services, please browse through the information in the “Who I Can See” tab. If you think it would be helpful to see me, please ask your child’s pediatrician or family doctor to complete a referral.

You can also find information about other mental health resources on the site, including helpful reading materials and some links relevant to children’s mental health.  I also like to write on mental health issues in my spare time, so you will find links to my books as well.

Whether or not you choose to pursue a referral, I hope you find the site helpful.

Wishing you and your family good health and peace,

Katharina Manassis, MD, FRCP(C)

I have written several books that are relevant to children's mental health. Some are more suited to parents of youth with anxiety disorders or depression; others are more suited to children's mental health professionals. Available titles include:
